Pima County DEQ encourages businesses and residents to minimize waste production and reuse and recycle whenever possible. The easiest and most cost-effective way of managing any waste is not to generate it in the first place. You can decrease the amount of waste you produce by developing a few good habits.

The mission of PDEQ's Waste Program is to:

• Ensure that hazardous and non-hazardous wastes are managed in an environmentally sound manner;

• Encourage the recycling and recovery of waste materials through suitable incentive/distinctive efforts; and

• Provide remedial responses and/or provide oversight to the uncontrolled releases of hazardous and petroleum substances into the environment.

Pima County has several programs designed to aid in reaching our goal:

Waste Programs

Illegal Dumping - Staff investigate all complaints regarding illegal dumping (wildcat dumping). Staff performs routine surveillance of private and public lands throughout Pima County that are frequent dump sites. Staff will obtain evidence, issue citations to responsible parties, and ensure proper disposal of the solid wastes. Once a month, staff supervises Adult Probation Workers during the cleaning of public land of "wildcat" solid waste. Staff also coordinates neighborhood clean-ups with community leaders and neighborhood groups.
