Tarped Loads Now Required At All County Landfills And Transfer Stations

News Release

For Immediate Release

Contact:    Beth Gorman    (520) 740-3343

Tucson, Arizona (November 14, 2007) - A new policy will be in effect beginning Sunday, November 18, 2007 at all county landfills and transfer stations. For increased safety and to reduce littering along our roads, all loads must now be tarped to enter county landfills and transfer stations. Loads must be entirely covered by a solid tarp that is secured at all four corners. All loads not tarped will be charged an additional fee of $10.00. The only exceptions are loads consisting of just tires or large appliances such as stoves and refrigerators.

The Pima County Department of Environmental Quality Solid Waste Management operates four landfills and two transfer stations within the county. The tarping of loads will reduce litter along streets and reduce the potential of objects being ejected from vehicles during transport.

For more information please call (520) 740-3340 during regular business hours.
