Tucson, Arizona (March 2, 2005) – Local agencies and businesses concerned about air quality and traffic congestion have again joined forces to promote the use of alternative modes of transportation in Pima County. The residents of Pima County are being encouraged to clean the air by using alternative modes of transportation during the month of April. The free Clean Air Fair activities are scheduled from Friday, April 1 through Monday, April 4, 2005. In addition to the Fair, a special contest is being kicked off on April 1 and runs through April 21, the day before Earth Day. If an individual takes actions to reduce air pollution, and a “21 Days to Cleaner Air” contest entry form is completed and submitted, the participant will be entered into a prize drawing for gifts donated by local businesses.

Fourteen fun-filled activities are planned during the Clean Air Fair event to encourage people to walk, take the bus, bicycle, carpool, or drive a clean fuel vehicle. On Sunday, April 3rd, the Clean Air Jamboree will be held at Reid Park’s DeMeester Outdoor Performance Center from noon to 5:00 p.m. with live music, clean fuel vehicle display, food, environmentally-related booths and information, face painters, solar energy booth, balloon art, bio-diesel presentation, air-filled obstacle course and more.

Clean Air Fair events include bike rides, walks, carpool and transit promotions, and fun activities for adults and kids! (See attached.) The schedule of events and prize drawing entry forms will be available on-line at www.cityoftucson.org/caf . Entry forms received by PDEQ by April 29, 2005 will be entered in a random drawing for great prizes, including a trip for two to San Diego, meals at local restaurants, gift certificates, and more. For more information call Pima County Department of Environmental Quality at 740-3947.

Clean Air Fair event sponsors include the City of Tucson and Pima County Departments of Transportation, Pima Association of Governments, Pima County Department of Environmental Quality, Sun Tran, Pima Community College, and Wild Oats Natural Market.
